When an external force, often referred to as the prime mover—such as a wind turbine, water turbine, or an engine—causes the rotor to spin, the magnetic field produced by the magnets rotates along with it. As this magnetic field moves, it intersects with the conductors present in the stator windings.
Based on the laws of electromagnetic induction, the movement of the magnetic field relative to the stator windings induces an electromotive force (EMF) within those windings. If these windings are connected to an external electrical circuit, this induced EMF allows electrical power to be generated and delivered to that circuit.
